[ARCHIVED] City of Trenton Public Hearing: Proposed Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Project Plan

CITY OF TRENTON PUBLIC HEARING

PROPOSED DRINKING WATER STATE REVOLVING FUND PROJECT PLAN

The City of Trenton will hold a public hearing for the purpose of receiving public comments and input regarding the proposed Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Project Plan. The public hearing will be held at City Hall located at 2800 Third Street, Trenton, MI 48183 at 6:00 p.m., Monday, June 6, 2022.

The Project Plan focuses on two drinking water system projects:

Project 1: Jefferson Avenue and Sibley Road Water Main Replacement and Extension

Project 2: Dwight Street and Helen Avenue Water Main Replacement

Project 1 consists of the construction of approximately 6,450 feet of 12-inch water main along West Jefferson Avenue and Sibley Road. The project will replace existing 6-inch, 8-inch, and 12-inch water main on West Jefferson Avenue and extend new 12-inch water main on West Jefferson Avenue and Sibley Road where it will be connected into the existing 12-inch water main that currently terminates near the railroad tracks. The water main extension will loop the system for redundancy and the pipe upsizing/replacement will alleviate the current water quality issues experienced by customers along West Jefferson Avenue.

Project 2 will replace and upsize approximately 1,900 feet of water main on Dwight Street, Helen Avenue, and the pipe that connects the two streets. The 6-inch water mains on Dwight Street and Helen Avenue, and the connecting 4-inch water main be replaced with 8-inch water main. The project will alleviate recent water main breaks in the area and also replace lead service lines that comprise more than half of the homes currently connected to the existing water main in the project area.

The estimated total project cost is $5,474,000. The annual debt payment is anticipated to be $330,747 over a 20-year period with a 1.875% interest rate. The City intends pay for the debt through the Water and Sewer rates. The new loan is anticipated to increase the Water and Sewer Budget by 3.45%, which would result in a 4.01% increase to the rates.

All interested parties are invited to present comments on the proposed Project Plan. Written comments may be submitted to the City of Trenton, Attn. Kevin Sargent, 1431 West Road, Trenton, MI 48183, or emailed to ksargent@trenton-mi.com.  Written comments must be received no later than June 10, 2022, for them to be considered part of the public record.

Starting on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, a copy of the draft Project Plan will be available for public review on the City of Trenton website: https://www.trentonmi.org.  A hard copy will also be available for public review at City Hall, 2800 Third Street, Trenton, MI 48183.
