The Michigan Homeowner Assistance Fund (MIHAF) is designed to keep Michigan residents in their homes by providing financial assistance to eliminate or reduce past due mortgage payments associated with homeownership, including property tax, condominium association dues, and/or housing utility payments.

THE MISSION OF THE TREASURER’S OFFICE

The mission of the Treasurer’s Office is to ensure the convenient, timely and accurate billing and collection of taxes and fees, receipt of all payments to the City, and investment of those funds so as to maximize the financial resources available to meet the needs of the City while complying with all laws governing the deposit and investment of said funds.

Property Tax Information

All property owners in the City of Trenton receive two tax bills per year. The summer bill is mailed on July 1st and payable by August 31st without penalty. The winter tax bill is mailed on December 1st and is payable by February 16th without penalty. If a due date falls on a weekend or holiday, the due date becomes the next business day. Penalty on a late tax bill is 4%.

Tax Payments

Tax payments are accepted at our office from July 1 through the end of February. Beginning March 1st of each year, all delinquent real property taxes are forwarded to Wayne County Treasurer’s Office for collection. Personal Property Taxes

All taxes levied on business personal property are collected through the City Treasurer’s Office. Any business operating on December 31 of any year will be responsible for the next year’s entire billing cycle (both Summer and Winter bills). This is a State of Michigan law. Failure to pay Personal Property Taxes as billed may result in the placement of a Warrant of Distraint on said property and possible seizure of the property.
