Trenton Trail Town Seeks Logo

Trenton Trail Town Advisory Committee has been hard at work over the past couple of months prioritizing the recommendations that were outlined in the Trail Town Master Plan. One of the first priorities identified is to develop a logo for the Trail Town initiative that will be used in all marketing materials and essentially become the Trail Town branding tool. In lieu of commissioning a professional marketing company to create the logo, the advisory committee is opting to take the grassroots approach and soliciting the help of Trenton's own.

The Committee is partnering with the Trenton Public Schools to launch a Trail Town Logo contest in November. The contest is open to all students k-12 and the rules and logo criteria will be shared through the schools. "The committee thought who better to depict the essence of Trenton and its trails than those who live here. It's a perfect partnership and we are excited to receive the creative ideas from the students." said Joann Gonyea, Parks and Recreation Director.

A Trail Town is defined as a community that supports trail users with services, promotes the trail system, both land and water, to its citizens, and embraces trails as a resource to be protected and celebrated. Students will be tasked with taking this definition and creating a logo that depicts a friendly place that supports, celebrates and encourages paddlers, walkers/runners, bikers and other trail users to visit and welcomes them with warm hospitality. "Encompassing all of this is a challenging task, but we are confident that Trenton's students will use their creativity to develop a spot-on logo for our town." Gonyea continued.

A similar contest was done a few years ago for the Healthy Trenton Initiative with great success. "We had over 150 entries from nearly every grade level, which gave the selection committee a lot from which to choose." said Ruth Sebaly, Beaumont Project Manager for Healthy Trenton and Trail Town Advisory Committee member. The committee is counting on similar success with the Trail Town Logo Contest. The deadline for entry is December 13, 2019. Both original hand drawn and digital entries will be accepted.

Entries will be judged on how well it invites people to visit and use Trenton's land and water trails, as well as, its creativity, originality and simplicity. The winning entry will be announced in January. Plans are also in the works to develop other marketing strategies that will showcase the work of non-winning entries received.
